What is it ?
============
Using this program owners of an Amiga with a high density floppy disk drive
are able to use the 1.71 MB sized HD disks under kickstart V37.175.
Some of the newer A3000's have high density floppy drives. If you own an A3000
just test it. Insert a HD disk perhaps borrowed from a PC user and format it.
If the CLI command 'Info' shows a disk capacity of about 1759K you own a HD
disk drive.
In the 37.175 version of Kickstart HD disks are not completely supported in
HD mode.
A use of both disk systems DD and HD is not possible without getting write
errors on the root-block. If you want to change the disk system you have to
reboot the system.
This program patches the system during every change of the disk system so
that a normal use of both disk systems HD and DD is now possible under Kick-
start V37.175.
This is version 1.10 of HDFixer. This version is an update to version 1.00.
(See AmigaLibDisk645) HDFixer V1.00 was a very early version supporting only
one HD disk drive. It was written for those who wanted to use their HD disk
drive not waiting a long time until they get a program which supports four
HD disk drives being not able to buy a second one. Now here is a four HD disk
drives supporting HDFixer.
HDFixer V1.00 and V1.10 are 100% written in Assembler.
How to use it :
===============
Simply start HDFixer from the Workbench or from the CLI. You can also drag
HDFixer in the 'WBStartup' directory of your boot disk/partition. Remember,
the 'DONOTWAIT' tool type is already set.
If there is a problem so that HDFixer cannot start e.g. if there is not
enough memory HDFixer reports the problem in a requester.
Starting HDFixer from the CLI the error message will be shown in the CLI
window.
Using the argument '?' a short info about HDFixer will be shown.
HDFixer opens a title-only-window on the Workbench screen. In the title
HDFixer reports its actions.
Inserting a DD-Disk into drive DFx: HDFixer will report 'Fixing DFx: to DD'.
Inserting a HD-Disk into drive DFx: HDFixer will report 'Fixing DFx: to HD'.
HDFixer reports 'NDOSDisk in DFx:' when a NDOS-Disk e.g a MSDOS disk has been
inserted in drive DFx: .
If there is a problem with the disk or something else so that HDFixer is not
able to fix into DD or HD mode HDFixer will report 'Can't fix DFx:'.
Holding down the right mouse button if the HDFixer window is active a menu
will be shown.
The first menu is named 'Project'. There are nine items :
=========================================================
Fix DF0: : Selecting this item drive DF0: will be fixed manually if it
exists.
Fix DF1: : Drive DF1: will be fixed manually if it exists.
Fix DF2: : as above
Fix DF3: : as above
Hide a sec. : Selecting this item the window of HDFixer hides for a moment.
Why do we have this feature? To change the screen mode of the
Workbench all windows except drawers must be closed. So if
a requester as the following is displayed just select this
item and press the 'Retry' gadget of the requester. The window
will be hidden for a moment and after the screen mode had
changed it will be opened again.

Load PREFS : Loads saved settings for the 'Options' menu questioning for
the filen name. See the 'Options' menus.
Save PREFS : Saves the settings from the 'Options' menu.
Save PREFS As : Saves the settings from the 'Options' menu questioning for
the filen name.
About HDFixer : Some information about HDFixer is shown in a requester. Hit
'OK' to continue.
Quit : This quits HDFixer.
The second menu is named 'Options'. There are five items :
==========================================================
Auto Fix DF0: : If this item is checked HDFixer will fix drive DF0: auto-
matically when a disk has been inserted.
Auto Fix DF1: : If this item is checked HDFixer will fix drive DF1: auto-
matically when a disk has been inserted.
Auto Fix DF2: : as above
Auto Fix DF3: : as above
Don't check the items of DD drives because fixind DD drives is not necessary.
Dynamic buffer: If this item is not checked HDFixer allocates 22528 bytes of
memory as a trackdisk buffer as long as terminated. But for
DD's the buffer only needs to be half as large. So using
dynamic buffering HDFixer allocates the needed memory
dynamically when fixing a drive. When HDFixer fixed a drive
the allocated memory will be released.
To terminate HDFixer click on the close gadget of it's window or choose the
'Quit' item of the 'Project' menu.
Note : You probably find some way to crash HDFixer that I have not tried yet
====== but I hope not. It can take up to 12 sec. until HDFixer had fixed four
HD disks inserted at the same time.
